The military conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues, trying to root the LRA out of the deep jungle. But Ugandan troops have left DRC at the request of Congolese government, leaving only Congolese and UN forces working to capture Kony and what is left of the LRA. Vicious LRA attacks on Congolese civilians have continued as the LRA seem to have become the DRC’s problem now.
President Obama appointed Johnnie Carson as lead African diplomat. Carson has been the US Ambassdor to Uganda, and promises to focus on the LRA situation with renewed administration support, so this is good.
Violent land disputes in Northern Uganda are a major obstacle to stability as people try to piece together a new beginning.
